Welcome to Island Daylily Farm!
We are the largest grower and supplier of specialty daylilies on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.
The First Nations aboriginals called it Quw'utsun'. It means the warm land, and they got it right. The name has now been anglicized to the "Cowichan" Valley, but the weather is as good as ever.
Those of us who settled here afterwards have learned that the climate, tempered by the Pacific currents, is ideal not just for a mild Canadian winter, but also for growing a wide range of unexpected crops. Excellent award-winning wineries abound, landscapers use palm trees and Yucca's for design accents. And daylilies, hardy by nature, have found a climate to thrive in.
Here at Island Daylily Farm you
can find hundreds of distinct cultivars (varieties) of this surprisingly varied and colourful
perennial known as Hemerocallis. Many of our cultivars are
well-known for their hardiness in the north and have been the perennial
stars of northern gardens for years. Other beautiful, and exotic cultivars
benefit from southern Vancouver Islands’ fortuitous California-like inclusion in
plant hardiness zones 7 and 8.
Our daylilies have something for everyone,
allowing you to plan for shorter border-edging miniatures, to stunning five foot
tall backdrop plants, in a range of colours and combinations that will inspire
you. Whatever your taste, you are sure
to be surprised and enthralled as you explore the beauty of our terraced
garden-ways, nursery beds and shade house.
